New ways to keep in touch with residents

I’ll be holding my first surgery as a Coldharbour & New Eltham ward councillor a week on Saturday – and this week our new poster will be going up on noticeboards across the ward to advertise this and other sessions.  One of the really positive pieces of feedback we had from residents during the election campaign was John and Mandy’s availability over the last 4 years – literally 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

Surgeries are a really important part of that, so we will be continuing to hold 5 a month for the foreseeable future.  While a council candidate I sat in on several alongside John and Mandy, and back when I worked for Chris White MP I often helped with his – I know just how crucial it is that residents know they can always have a face-to-face conversation. After a hugely enjoyable 15-month campaign, delivering tens of thousands of leaflets and knocking on thousands of doors, I’m delighted to report that I was elected to represent the good people of Coldharbour, Mottingham & New Eltham in the Royal Borough of Greenwich on Thursday. I just wanted to take a quick break from campaigning to share some massively exciting news on our efforts to Mend The Mound.  Earlier this year the campaign, which I launched last year with my colleagues Cllr Mandy Brinkhurst and Cllr John Hills, secured improved lighting at the long-neglected Coldharbour shops – and this week has notched up another success. I’m just about to enter my 15th (and final, one way or another!) campaigning month as a candidate for Coldharbour & New Eltham ward in the local elections – in which I’m also the Election Agent for all of our 51 Conservative candidates in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.  Both roles have kept me, alas, away from this parish – but I’ve been moved to revisit the blog to share a sorry tale from nextdoor Bexley, that I think deserves a wider airing.
