I just wanted to take a quick break from campaigning to share some massively exciting news on our efforts to Mend The Mound. Earlier this year the campaign, which I launched last year with my colleagues Cllr Mandy Brinkhurst and Cllr John Hills, secured improved lighting at the long-neglected Coldharbour shops – and this week has notched up another success.
After a needless two-year delay that Labour cabinet members struggled to explain at last month’s council meeting, the weight of public opinion behind the Mend The Mound campaign finally forced progress on a local couple’s application for a new Cafe at the shops earlier this year. As a result of our petition, it was finally granted planning permission yesterday – which means whether I win or lose next Thursday, there will be a Cafe on the Mound (funnily enough, to be called ‘Cafe Mound’ thanks in part to how much the campaign’s name has caught on!)
I’m thrilled to have helped make this happen – a Cafe is exactly what we need to help regenerate the shops. I hope that residents will give me their support at the ballot box next Thursday so I can continue the campaign beyond the election.
Full details on the new Cafe can be found on our ward website.
